We are going to hold the second in our “Running Smart” series at the 3 Swans following the very successful session earlier in the year on Mobility and Warm Ups.

This one is an Introduction to Strength Training and Injury Prevention to be held on Wednesday 10 September 7-8pm

As we come into the autumn and winter training/racing periods what better way to kick start your next phase of training than ensuring you have the knowledge and practical techniques to prime your body to avoid unnecessary time out through injury?

Most of us have been there and know the frustration of our running being disrupted by that niggle, pull, or something more serious. Given that consistent training over time is the most important factor in improving our fitness and performance in the long term the benefits from the strength exercises proven to reduce the injury risk are too important to ignore. Attending to our strength also becomes much more critical as we get beyond age 35+ when bone density and muscle fibres begin to decline.

Our session is led by Chris Stankiewicz founder and Clinical Director of the Injury Clinic here in Market Harborough. He will talk us through what is important and why. He will highlight the 3 key areas of the body where weakness makes us more prone to injury and how we can become stronger through simple strength exercises we can do anywhere, anytime.

These exercises will be demonstrated and practiced on the night with guidance on how they can be progressed as you get stronger.

You will leave with new insights, practical interventions, a guide to access at home, and a special offer at the end!

The session takes place in the Cromwell Suite generously provided to us by our sponsors the 3 Swans. No equipment needed but advisable to bring an exercise mat if you have one. Starts promptly at 7pm and finishes at 8pm with the chance to talk to Chris afterwards.

It is open to all seniors including those currently injured who will find the session beneficial (but of course don't do any of the exercises that might impact on your current rehab programme).

Places limited to 35 and the cost is £2.

Please note car parking at the 3 Swans is very limited so best to park in one of the nearby public car parks.

Bookings can be cancelled until 15:50 on 10/09/2025. Bookings cancelled within 3 hours of the session start will not be eligible for a refund.
